School Considering Providing Birth Control To Sixth Graders

If the committee approves the King proposal, it would be the first middle school in Maine to make a full range of contraception available to some students in grades 6 to 8, said Nancy Birkhimer, director of teen health programs for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

I am definitely for sex education for students to fully understand the positives and negatives of having a sexual life. But, there are other negatives aside from suggesting the idea of sex to middle schoolers. I am not naive, I realize that horomones are starting to kick in but at this age it's more about experimenting that actually enjoying sex. Yes, it gives middle schoolers the protection of Birth Control but this doesn't teach them enough about emotional stress or diseases they may contract. Furthermore, their bodies are comopletely changing and adding or experimenting different dosages of estrogen and progesterone to their body takes a toll on some. Should they face all these changes in life when they barely know how to make their beds routinely or get to school on time?

Birth control, condoms, plus education seems like a good idea to me, even in junior high school. Better than getting pregnant at that age.
